The electric-blue jumper

#042 2 images

Ines shipped dark mode by telling the shop to show every colour as its opposite. Nine hundred customers ordered an electric-blue jumper nobody had ever made.

The mistake

Dark mode is implemented by inverting every colour value on the page, rather than swapping a curated set of UI tokens for a dark palette. That inversion is applied globally, so it hits product photography along with backgrounds and text, flipping every pixel in each image to its complementary colour. An orange jumper's photo therefore renders as electric blue, and customers can order it as if it were a real, in-stock product.
