June made the select-all tick-box select every customer matching the search. Toby used it to merge twenty-five duplicates, leaving the company with one customer.
The mistake
The header tick-box changes meaning from "this page" to "every match", but looks identical either way. Toby's Merge Duplicates then operates on the whole result set instead of the twenty-five rows on screen.
