The mistake

The QR code on the catalogue's back cover encodes a URL pointing at a development instance of the shop running on June's laptop — a private LAN address that only resolves for devices on the office network. Every test was run from a desk on that same network, so the code appeared to work while the host name was never reachable from the public internet. The address was then committed to 40,000 printed copies, where it cannot be changed after the fact.
