Forty-one thousand pounds

#087 2 images

Russ covered one weekend of server bills on his own card in 2019 and never moved them off. Forty-one thousand pounds later, Dale gave him the savings award.

The mistake

A one-off payment gets made on a personal credit card to cover an urgent bill, with the intention of switching it back to a company payment method later. That switch never happens, so recurring infrastructure costs keep billing to the personal account indefinitely, and because the spend never touches the company's own billing or accounting system, finance has no record of it and reports the cost as zero.
