The mistake

The orders page has a slow-load timeout that falls back to an empty-state screen designed for customers with zero order history. When the page is slow — not actually empty — the same empty-state is shown regardless of whether the customer has any orders, so the fallback conflates 'request timed out' with 'no data exists.' Customers with long purchase histories see the empty state, believe their orders were deleted, and reorder everything.
