Rings on every sale
Russ wired the office bell to the shop's Pay button so everyone could hear sales landing. The card company was down, so it rang for every declined card.
The mistake
The bell is triggered by the Pay button's click event, so it counts payment attempts, not successful payments. Nothing checks the card processor's response, so every declined card rings the bell exactly like a real sale. The alert should fire only on a confirmed success signal, such as the processor's payment-succeeded webhook or a captured charge. When the card company goes down, retries and declines inflate the signal instead of silencing it.
