Nine hundred yen
June launched the shop in Japan by swapping the pound sign for a yen sign and leaving the numbers alone. Japan bought nine thousand sofas at four pounds fifty.
The mistake
The team launches a localized storefront by swapping the currency symbol from £ to ¥ without converting the underlying price value, so every item keeps its original numeric price tag. Since ¥900 is worth roughly £4.50 at current exchange rates, a product meant to cost £900 is now listed at well under a fiver. Localizing a price requires multiplying by the exchange rate before display, not just relabeling the symbol.
