The mistake

The warning banner is added to a header component that is shared by both the practice shop and the real shop, with no environment check or feature flag to scope it to one deployment only. Because the two shops render the same header, publishing the change applies the 'do not pay' banner to both, including the live checkout customers actually use. The fix later is to make every page explicitly declare which environment it belongs to, rather than relying on a shared component to behave differently in each context.
